Communication With Spirits
The concept of extraordinary mental power is an interesting one. Recently there has been an influx of television shows featuring supposed psychic mediums. These mediums are people that claim that they can communicate with the spirits of people that have passed away. Their television shows had an audience filled with families that wished to speak with their lost loved ones just one more time. Psychic mediums, despite having a large following, have been under suspicion for fraud as long as they’ve been around. Whenever these mediums have been asked to test their abilities in a scientific setting, they have failed miserably. Some of the psychic mediums refuse to be tested at all, and mediums that agree to the scientific testing claim to have had some type of psychic interference when their work abilities fail to meet their mark.
It’s sad to see so many of these grieving families get taken advantage of by people that they think are actual psychic mediums. Many of these families are having a hard time coping with their loss and they feel that visiting mediums can actually give them some comfort. What they’re actually getting is lies fed to them and that is not something that should be tolerated. There have been plenty of cases where the psychic mediums were being relayed information by somebody off set. The audience was told to fill out cards regarding their situation, and the mediums pretended to know this information through communication with spirits.
While the off stage accomplice was used by psychic mediums in the past, mediums of today have begun to use a different method. This method is called “cold reading”. Psychic mediums accomplish this by starting their read by talking to the whole audience. The mediums might say something like, “I’m getting a message from an old man whose name starts with an M.” It is more than likely that almost everyone in the audience is familiar with an old man whose name starts with an M. From there, they narrow it down to one person in the audience and the psychic mediums start using generalities to make the audience member think the mediums are actually communicating with their loved one.
It’s fairly clear that none of these psychic mediums can actually communicate with spirits. If they could, the mediums could prove it at any chance they were given the opportunity. Since no one has come forward that can actually prove scientifically that their gift is a true one, we can only assume that all mediums are frauds. We would all like to believe that there is an afterlife. There would be nothing more comforting than knowing that your loved ones, friends, and family are up there waiting for you, but the fact is that none of us will actually know until we leave this world and see for ourselves. For supposed psychic mediums to try to give us assurance when they don’t know what’s out there any better than we do is just plain wrong.
