There is a strange phenomenon that has found its way and seated itself deep inside our culture. I say it’s strange because there isn’t much known about its origins, yet people regard it as an all knowing force. What I am referring to are tarot readings. A tarot reading consists of a psychic reader that puts tarot cards into a formation and then attempts to tell you about who you are and where you are going. These tarot readings have gained tons of popularity in recent years, largely because of phone and online psychics advertising on television. What is hard to understand for me personally, is why people are searching for a tarot reading in the first place.
There is a decent amount of controversy as to where tarot readings originated from. Some people claim they have been around since ancient Egypt. Whether ancient Egyptians actually went out for a tarot reading in between building those massive pyramids remains to be seen. What is known, however, is that tarot cards were used to play games during the 1400’s in Europe. Rather than do tarot readings, they used the deck of tarot cards much like the way we use playing cards today. There are four suits, and cards that are similar to the king, queen, jack, and ace in a standard deck of cards. It might even be possible to do a tarot reading with the deck of cards you have laying around the house. Some people might believe that tarot readings can only be done using tarot cards, but there isn’t too much of a difference. The only difference there would be if I tried to use a standard deck of playing cards for a tarot reading is that my pocket would be more full.
There’s a lot that can be said about the tarot reading industry when one of the most famous spokespeople was sued for fraud and false advertising. I’m referring of course to Miss Cleo, the famous psychic with a Caribbean flair. Her company offered tarot readings that many people were not only unsatisfied with, but some were charged near three hundred dollars for. If a company is giving out tarot readings, the only way they can justify charging that much money is if they can mark the X on my treasure map. A tarot reading can’t be taken seriously when their customers are filing lawsuits against them regularly.
Tarot readings are undeniably a part of our culture now, but it’s important that people be wary of who they’re getting a tarot reading from. It might be fun to get a tarot reading from time to time for entertainment purposes, but tarot readings should not become your way of life. There isn’t much known about tarot cards in general, and when you do get a tarot reading, most of the things they reveal to you can apply to anyone. My advice to psychic junkies out there is to put the cards down, forget about the tarot readings and make things happen for yourself. The only way you can see the future is through hard work.
